Before founding Care Capital, Mr. Leschly was Chief Executive of SmithKline Beecham PLC ("SB") from 1994 to 2000. He joined SB as Chairman of the Worldwide Pharmaceutical Business in 1990 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1990.
Before joining SB, Mr. Leschly served as President and COO of Squibb Corporation. He joined Squibb in 1979 as Vice President, Commercial Development and in 1984 he was elected Group Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors with responsibility for the Worldwide Pharmaceuticals Products Group. Previously he worked for seven years with Novo Nordisk, where he served as Executive Vice President and President of the Pharmaceutical Division.
Mr. Leschly is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Express Company, Viacom Inc. and the Maersk Group and serves on the International Advisory Board of DaimlerChrysler AG. He is a member of the Business Council and the Emory University Goizueta Business School Dean's Advisory Council.
Before his business career, Mr. Leschly made his name in professional tennis, achieving the rank of 10th in the world in 1967. He serves as Chairman of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Born in Denmark, Mr. Leschly received a Master of Science in Pharmacy from the Copenhagen College of Pharmacy and a B.S. in Business Administration from the Copenhagen School of Economics and Business Administration.
Mr. End is a Managing Director in the Global Private Equity Group at Merrill Lynch & Co., where he serves as Co-Head of the North American region and a member of the MLGPE Operating Committee. Previously, Mr. End was a founding partner of Stonington Partners, a New York based private equity firm established in 1993 with $1 billion under management. Prior to that time, he was a Managing Director and Partner of Merrill Lynch Capital Partners, the private equity arm of Merrill Lynch with $1.9 billion in equity capital under management.
Mr. End began his career in the Investment Department with Northwestern Mutual in 1982 before joining Merrill Lynch in 1986. He has served on the boards of numerous private and public companies as well as the MBA Advisory Board at the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Mr. End graduated from the Amos Tuck School of Business in 1982 and Dartmouth College in 1977.
Dr. Fortune is a Partner with Boston Millennia Partners and has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare, life sciences and information technology sectors. Dr. Fortune was previously President and Chief Operating Officer of New Era of Networks; Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Monsanto; and Vice President, Information Management at Bristol Myers Squibb. He has been responsible for nurturing start-up activities from idea to prototype to standalone business. He has also been involved in some 30 M&A transactions from sourcing the company to closing the deal and successfully integrating the result. He has served on the Board of Directors of three public companies and on the engineering and scientific advisory boards of The University of Wisconsin, the University of Illinois, and the University of Chicago. Dr. Fortune holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, an MBA from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Glasheen joined Technology Partners from CIT Venture Capital, where he served as Managing Director, leading the Group's efforts in Life Science investing.
Previously, he was a member of McKinsey & Company's Pharmaceutical and Medical Products Practice. Over the course of 4 years, he worked extensively with a broad range Life Science Companies on M&A, business development and strategic issues.
Dr. Glasheen earned a B.S. from Duke University in Biology / Mechanical Engineering and a M.A. and a Ph.D. from Harvard University in Biology. He also was a Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD) fellow at Universitaet des Saarlandes, Germany and a post-doctoral fellow at University of California, Berkeley. He has published several papers and had his research highlighted in several major media outlets, including: Nature, The New York Times, Scientific American, CNN, Die Zeit, and Le Monde.
Dr. Horovitz is a consultant to the Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical industries. Before he retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1994, he spent 34 years in various positions, including serving as Associate Director of the Squibb Institute for Medical Research, Vice President of Development, Vice President, Scientific Liason, Vice President of Licensing, and Vice President of Business Development and Planning for the pharmaceutical division of Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Dr. Horovitz held advisory positions at the University of Pittsburgh, where he attained his Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1960, Rutgers College of Pharmacy, and Princeton University.
He was Chairman of the Board of Magainin Pharmaceuticals (now called Genaera) and is currently Chairman of Phyton, Inc. In addition, he is a director of 10 other companies: Biocryst Pharmaceuticals, Diacrin, Avigen, Synaptic Pharmaceuticals, Phyton, 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals, Nitromed, Immunicon, Palatin Technologies and Dov Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Horovitz is the winner of the A.E. Bennett Neuropsychiatric Research Award and one of the winners of the American Heart Association Discovery Award for work on the development of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibiters.
Ms. Nelson has been Managing Director at Investor Growth Capital since 1998 and is based in IGC's New York office. She is Co-Head of Investor Growth Capital's Healthcare investing activities and focuses on specialty, small molecule and biologic pharmaceuticals, life sciences and healthcare services. Before joining IGC, Ms. Nelson spent 10 years with Pfizer Inc., where she held a series of positions with increasing responsibility in corporate finance/M&A, strategy, business development, marketing and operating management. She co-founded and served as senior operating head for Pfizers healthcare services subsidiary, Pfizer Health Solutions. Prior to Pfizer, Ms. Nelson was with the New York offices of the Boston Consulting Group (strategy consulting) and E.M. Warburg, Pincus & Co. (venture capital), where in both cases she concentrated on healthcare and life sciences.
Ms. Nelson received an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the Yale School of Management and a BA in Economics from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She also serves on the Boards of ISTA Pharmaceuticals, Molecular Staging and Physiome Sciences.
